When we were in Exuma, Taylor had to leave for a week mid-way through our trip for her dad’s wedding in LA. She’s traveled herself before, but they’ve been easy non-connection flights. And at the time, she’d also been considered an unaccompanied minor, so the airline took responsibility for her and helped her through it. Downside of that though … she had to wear a big plastic sign around her neck that basically said I’m a dork gave all her guardian information and travel information.
Anyway.
I checked her into the very small airport in Exuma and tried to go to the “gate” with her. They asked for my ticket and I said I was just accompanying her. They asked how old she was and then informed us she was old enough to go herself.
Um, scuze me … but this mama didn’t think so.
Anyway. When she left the Bahamas for LA, she had to fly into Miami. Go through customs. Collect her bag. Go through customs again. Drop her bag. Then she had to find her gate. Then they switched her gate. And they were speaking Spanish. And she freaked.
She was texting and calling me the entire time.
Her flight didn’t leave Miami til 7:30 something at night and was 5 1/2 hours long. She would be arriving LA something around 1:00 in the morning my time. I had my phone on my nightstand, but never heard her text come through.
When I woke, I immediately grabbed my phone to see if she’d needed me at all. The message above was what I found. What more could a mama ask for? ;)

Awe, every once in a while we need a reminder and what a way to get it!

I’m all chocked up. I get those “messages” from my kids…but they’re 6 & 7. I sure hope I still get them when my kids are 14. Tay is lucky to have you….and its amazing to see that she realizes it too :)
ohhhhh such a sweet sweet message!!!!! Your heart must have JUMPED with serious joy when you read that. My son started flying solo at a early age and I remember those moments of pure happiness whenever I found that he landed safely.
