Therefore, since you have been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:1
Well … we did it! We made our journey through 31 days of faith. It’s been a beautiful journey and I’ve surprised myself with some of the things I’ve learned in the process … I pray you have too!
Today marks the last post of the series and I’ve decided to leave you with thoughts of peace. Can’t we all use a little more peace in our lives?
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace,
which exceeds anything we can understand.
His peace will guard your hearts and minds
as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 {NLT}
Peace that exceeds ANYTHING we can understand. Isn’t that faith? Believing in something beyond what our human minds are capable of understanding?
As you walk away from this series, I think it’s important to remember … faith doesn’t keep you from hurts, but faith gets you through them. When you have faith, without doubt … without fail, God pours His peace out all over you.
A new friend mentioned the following to me the other day and it sank down deep into my heart. Read it carefully and let it sink into yours.
“God gives strength to everyone, but only the strong people use it.”
I believe that God’s got my back … good, bad, and otherwise … He is FOR me.
“… If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”
Romans 8:31 {NLT}
If you’re still struggling … whether it be with doubt or wondering how to grow in your faith … I have a few thoughts for you.
First, don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t. God works in each of us differently and on different levels. He has something in store, uniquely, for each of us. And if we start comparing … “that person’s got crazy-love faith and there’s no way I could measure up” … if we start comparing, we’ll miss out on the unique message, lesson, or blessing that God has in store especially for us.
Second, you need to get into God’s Word. You just do. Even if you read one verse a day. And even if you don’t know what you’re reading {true story!}. I used to and sometimes still do just read the commentaries written in the margins of my devotional Bible. The actual text might as well’ve been gibberish as far as I was concerned.
But I’ve learned better. As I’ve grown {and continue to grow}, God’s Word is nestling itself deep into my heart. Many times I’m still not sure what I’m reading, but because I know I won’t hear Him unless I grow closer to Him {through His Word} … I press on. I open it. I read it. And heck, now I’m even highlighting it!
Third {and these are in no particular order}, pray. Just talk to God. He’s a person you know. Talk to Him over coffee as though you’re chatting with your bestie getting your toes painted. He’s real like that. True story.
Fourth … believe. Don’t just believe IN God. Believe God. {thank you Beth Moore}
So listen … can I encourage you a moment? Go ahead … jump from that window ledge and fly! The next time you’re teetering on the brink of doubt, put on your best Disney voice and sing, “I can fly, I can fly, I can fly!” Throw on a little pixie dust if you have to!
God will give you your wings. I promise. How can I promise? Because it’s HIS promise. And I have faith in His promises. I believe His promises.
