That quote says it all! And after all this writing, I kinda wanna yell at y’all . . . “For the love of God people, can’t we all just love each other and get along!?”
But let’s pretend I didn’t write that and it’s just me thinking aloud . . . kind of.
The Bible tells us over and over again to love each other {as Christ loves us}, to forgive each other {as Christ forgives us}, to be imitators of Christ, and be doers of the Word.
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says.
Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
For if you listen to the word and don’t obey,
it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.
You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free,
and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard,
then God will bless you for doing it.
James 1:22-25 {NLT}
Sometimes Christians can be the biggest hypocrites of us all. My husband, who is new in his faith, has said many times, both before and after receiving God, “That doesn’t seem very ‘Christian.’”
True. We are all sinners and we all slip up. Those momentary slips aren’t the things I’m speaking of. I’m speaking of someone who claims to be a Christian, yet lives in such a way that Jesus isn’t shining through his/her everyday life.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words,
and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.
Ephesians 4:31 {NLT}
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:32 {NLT}
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are
his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ.
Ephesians 5:1-2a {NLT}
According to the above Scripture, we can break it down this way:
- Get rid of all the ugly inside of us {remember, it’s our choice . . . do we choose to keep the ugly, or do we choose to live in freedom?}.
- Be kind, tenderhearted, forgiving . . . just as God has forgiven us.
- How do we do this? Imitate God and follow His example.
Lord, help me to release any ugly thoughts that may be buried in my heart. It’s my desire to live in the freedom You have available to me. Lord, keep me tenderhearted, kind, and forgiving toward everyone I encounter. Help me Lord to follow your example and imitate you in everything I do.
