Have you heard of it? It’s an amazing organization and one very close to my heart … and soon to be, Taylor’s heart. The director of our Ophelia Project {OP} chapter is starting a teen advisory board and mentoring program. And I’m proud that Taylor has decided to be a part of that program.
OP is hosting their annual 5K fundraiser in just a couple weeks, so I asked the director for more information that I could share with all of you:
The Ophelia Project of SE Wisconsin is dedicated to helping youth form healthy peer relationships and creating safe social climates for all. We provide schools and community organizations with comprehensive tools, strategies and solutions to help combat the negative effects of relational aggression and other non-physical forms of bullying.
Every day, in the US alone, 160,000 children miss school for fear of being tormented by their peers.
Every child deserves to feel safe.
In 2008, The Ophelia Project of SE Wisconsin’s volunteers facilitated programs and workshops for over 2,500 children and adults. Our current annual budget is $20,000. Most of our funding comes from our annual “Single Steps…World of Difference 5K Fun Run/Walk”. The 2009 Run/Walk will be August 15th, 6 pm, along the scenic shores of Lake Michigan in Racine.
A couple of other ways to help:
- volunteers are still needed to help with registration
- corporate sponsors are needed {$250.00 & up}
- teams or individual participants are needed. please email address on flyer for forms or more information
Please tell everyone you know to support this important organization. Click here to download a printable flyer. Thank you, in advance, for your support!
Thanks, Tracie!
Tracie, are you going to participate?? I’m thinking of doing the walk, since I’m a wimp unlike our superhero friend, Amy. ;-)
